5 Cheap Dedicated Server Hosting Options That Are Actually Good

If you’re in the market for a cheap dedicated server hosting, then you likely know your way around some of the more popular providers.

The problem is that many of them require you to pay through the nose for the privilege of having a server all to yourself.

That’s only logical, considering providers need to offset expenses in one way or another. However, if you do a little digging, you’ll find there are some dedicated server hosting plans that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

Five cheap dedicated server hosting plans compared

During the research, I found a sweet spot for ‘starter’ dedicated servers at around $100 per month. Each of the web hosts below offers at least one plan near that price point. However, keep in mind that you can only receive these rates with a long-term contract.

If you want to pay on a monthly basis, you need to expand your server budget to $100-200 per month. For each web host on our list, we’ll also include monthly pricing to help you make a better-informed decision.

These are the best cheap dedicated server hosting options that we’ll be looking at:

  • Bluehost
  • A2 Hosting
  • HostGator
  • InMotion Hosting
  • Liquid Web

1. Bluehost (www.bluehost.com)

Cheap dedicated server hosting: Bluehost
  • From: $99.99 per month (with a three-year contract)
  • CPU: 4 cores @ 2.5 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 1 TB
  • Bandwidth: 10 TB
  • Dedicated IP addresses: 4
  • Multiple dedicated server options: ✅

Bluehost is one of the most popular web hosts around and offers pretty much every type of plan you can imagine.

When it comes to tiers, it keeps things simple. With most types of hosting, you only get two or three options to pick from. That same approach applies to its dedicated hosting plans.

Bluehost offers two options below the $100-per-month mark if you don’t mind signing up for a three-year contract. Otherwise, the Enhanced server costs $199.99 per month. The basic Standard option is cheaper, but it comes with only 4 GB of RAM, which means we can’t readily recommend it.

2. A2 Hosting

Cheap dedicated server hosting: A2 Hosting
  • From: $99.59 per month (with a one-year contract)
  • CPU: 2 cores @ 3.1 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 2×500 GB SSD
  • Bandwidth: 10 TB
  • Dedicated IP addresses: 2
  • Multiple dedicated server options: ✅

A2 Hosting has a reputation for cheap plans. It also makes a big deal out of its servers’ performance. We know their Turbo-enabled plans tend to be fast. Fortunately, that feature comes by default with all the dedicated servers at A2.

The downside is that A2’s only dedicated server around the $100-per-month mark just offers a 2-core CPU. Plus, you only get that nice price if you sign up for a one-year contract. Otherwise, the cost jumps up to $149.99 per month. Plus, you’d also be wise to look into renewal costs before committing.

Although the clock speed is higher than Bluehost’s, the 4-core system should still be faster and better at multitasking, in general. Beyond price, A2 Hosting also offers a broad selection of dedicated server plans, including options with root access and managed hosting.

3. HostGator

Cheap dedicated server hosting: HostGator
  • From: $119 per month (with a three-year contract)
  • CPU: 4 cores @ 3.2 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 1 TB HDD
  • Bandwidth: Unmetered
  • Dedicated IP addresses: 3
  • Multiple dedicated server options: ✅

HostGator might not have a blemish-free reputation, but it’s important to note that a majority of its less-than-stellar reviews come from shared-tier users. With a dedicated server, performance is always going to be better unless your web host is doing something seriously wrong.

As far as HostGator’s dedicated options go, its cheapest server starts at $119 per month with a three-year commitment. On a month-by-month basis, the starting price goes up to $189.

For that extra money, you receive unmetered bandwidth and the fastest CPU we’ve seen so far. It’s also worth noting that HostGator is one of the only options on our list of cheap dedicated server hosting providers that enables you to choose between Linux or Windows for your operating system.

👉 Go to HostGator

4. InMotion Hosting

Cheap dedicated server hosting: InMotion
  • From: $115.69 per month (with a one-year contract)
  • CPU: 4 cores @ 3.50 GHz
  • RAM: 8 GB
  • Storage: 500 GB SSD or 1 TB HDD
  • Bandwidth: 6 TB
  • Dedicated IP addresses: 5
  • Multiple dedicated server options: ✅

InMotion offers one of the broadest ranges of dedicated server plans you can find. Out of a total of six possible off-the-rack configurations, however, only one comes close to our desired budget.

That said, $115.69 per month goes a long way with InMostion. This plan includes a fast, multi-core CPU, the standard 8 GB of RAM we’ve come to expect, and your choice of storage options. You also get up to two hours of ‘managed hosting’ assistance with setting up your dedicated server.

If this is your first time tinkering with dedicated hosting, that extra support can come in handy. However, if you want to pay on a monthly basis, keep in mind that the price we quoted goes up to $146.59.

👉 Go to InMotion Hosting

5. Liquid Web

Cheap dedicated server hosting: Liquid Web
  • From: $119 per month (with a two-year contract)
  • CPU: 4 cores @ 3.9 GHz
  • RAM: 32 GB
  • Storage: 2×240 GB SSD (with a 1 TB HDD backup)
  • Bandwidth: 5 TB
  • Dedicated IP addresses: 1
  • Multiple dedicated server options: ✅

On paper, Liquid Web handily beats all the other cheap dedicated server hosting options we’ve seen so far. Unfortunately, its basic plan only comes down to our target budget if you’re willing to pay for a two-year contract. Plus, you’ll only get one dedicated IP address.

If you opt for monthly payments, the cheapest Liquid Web dedicated server will cost you $199 per month. However, for that money, you’ll have the best server configuration we’ve seen so far with a base plan, as well as managed hosting services.

Beyond hardware, Liquid Web also provides free integration with Cloudflare (one of our favorite CDNs), multiple choices for your control panel, and Windows or Linux for your OS. That said, keep in mind that its managed hosting service is only available for Linux servers.

Microsoft Update For IE Fixes Aurora Bug and Others

A cumulative update for Internet Explorer from Microsoft fixes the infamous vulnerability in the browser used recently to attack Google and other major companies.

7 other IE vulnerabilities were also fixed, as it appears that Microsoft may have had this update ready to go for February.

This episode began not 2 weeks ago when Google announced that they had been the target of significant attacks from sites in China seeking to steal intellectual property and compromise GMail accounts of human rights activists.
The company said they would no longer censor search results on their Chinese sites and would, if need be, withdraw from China. Google was not alone in being attacked; Adobe and many other corporate and government sites were.

The attacks, which collectively have come to be known as "Aurora," were at first credited to a malicious Acrobat PDF file, then to the IE 0-day vulnerability fixed in this update.

In fact, many different malware and vulnerability techniques were used; some were the IE 0-day and some malware experts claim that a PDF was indeed used in others.

The update code is available through all the usual channels: Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Software Update Services (WSUS).

The bulletin for the update lists the update as Critical for all platforms other than Internet Explorer 6 on Windows Server 2003. 4 of the vulnerabilities, including the Aurora bug (designated CVE-2010-0249) are rated by Microsoft as likely to result in consistent exploit code, and of course Aurora is already being exploited.

5 of the other 7 vulnerabilities have descriptions essentially identical to that of the Aurora bug, and all 6 have consecutive CVE numbers.

This, combined with the Acknowledgements section of the advisory, indicates that once notified of Aurora, researchers found other related vulnerabilities and reported them to Microsoft. TippingPoint and the Zero Day Initiative are the big contributors this month.

The remaining 2 vulnerabilities are a cross-site scripting bug that could allow certain scripts to run in the wrong security context and a URL validation vulnerability that could allow remote code execution by way of a maliciously-crafted URL. On any other day this latter bug would be big news.

Increase Connection Limits in Internet Explorer 8

The number of files that you can download simultaneously in Internet Explorer 7 or earlier versions is limited to 2 by default.

When Internet Explorer 8 is released, this limitation has been increased to 6.

Although the default connection allowed at one time has been increased significantly,

but if you think that it still can’t fulfill your requirement and you want it to be more, you can actually increase it to up to 10 connections at one time.

To increase the number of files that can be downloaded simultaneously to 8 in Internet Explorer 8, it can be done via simple registry hack as shown below:

1. Open notepad.

2. Copy below string and paste it into notepad:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings]
“MaxConnectionsPerServer”=dword:00000010
“MaxConnectionsPer1_0Server”=dword:0000010

3. One thing to take note here. Once you have copied the string to notepad, delete both ” (double quote) and retype. Without doing so could cause the value fail to be added into registry due to the double quote copy from the webpage is different from what you type manually. Save the notepad as “IncreaseConIE8.reg” with Save as type is “All Files”.

4. Double click the registry file, continue with UAC prompt and click OK to confirm you wish to perform the action.

Once you have completed the above steps, you should be able to download 10 files simultaneously by using Internet Explorer 8.

About DSL Internet Service

DSL is another digital internet connection and working with high speed than any old dial-up and cable modem.

There is no need to install new dedicated cable network to run DSL because data is transmitted over already exiting copper wire.

This connection is ideal for internet access.

DSL provider offering traffic allowed up to 1 GB with basic 128 Kbps internet connection.

But if you want to play online games, downloading audio or video files and uploading data, then the traffic allowed(1 GB) in one month from DSL provider will be the main issue for you.
May be some DSL provider offering you up to 2 GB or more with the same rates. Today there are many DSL providers offering DSL connection in all cities and some rural areas. DSL provides high speed on already exiting telephone lines, and same time you can use internet and as well as your line for phone.

To check the availability of DSL connection first check your telephone number at which you are want to install DSL connection.

If your telephone exchange is updated by DSL provider according to need of DSL technology then you may apply for DSL internet connection. For this purpose you can visit your friends or neighbors for information to getting broadband connection.

You can visit your nearest Internet service provider to check DSL availability in your area and about different DSL packages.

The Breif History Of Internet

The Internet is the network of networks around the world.

It is made up of thousands of smaller, national, regional, governmental, academic and commercial networks.

It is a global network. Information can be communicated from one city (or country) to another through Internet.

You can access information all over the work. More than two billion people around the world use the Internet daily for different purposes.

For example, to communicate with other people around the world, access information and latest news around the world etc.

The computers are the main components through which information can be electronically sent and received from one location to another.

For this purpose, a special device called modem is also used with computer and then computer is attached with the telephone line. The modem sends and receives the information over telephone lines. You must have an Internet connection of any local ISP (Internet Service Provider) to share the information on Internet.

The telephone lines, fiber-optic cables, satellite communications are the main media of communications that are used to connect to the Internet.

Today Internet is a global web of nearly one million computer networks. Internet host computers are connected to the Internet round the clock.

Brief History of Internet:

The Internet was started in 1969 by the defense department of USA. Later, it was handed over to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The DARPA launched the first Internet program. The DARPA established a network of 4 computers and named as ARPANet.
The protocols (Software) that define the rules to exchange information between computers were created by DARPA.

The idea of computer networking soon became popular. Several universities & research organizations developed their own computer networks. They joined their networks to ARPANet. The ARPANet became the network of networks. This network of computer networks was named as Internet.

In 1986 the National Science Foundation (NSF), another federal agency of USA, established a network and named as NSFNet. It was established for academic purpose and was accessible to everyone. Later, it was expanded all over the country and large number of universities and research centers were connected to this network.

The academic networks were established and all these were interconnected together to share the information. The way of connecting one network to another is termed as internetworking and “Internet” is also derived from internetworking. The NSF provided the connections for academic research centers only.

After this many telecommunication companies established their own network backbones by using the same networking protocol as NSFNet used and also provided connections to private users. In 1995, NSF terminated its network on the Internet. Today, the Internet consists of many local, regional, national and international networks.

Network Backbone:

The inner structure of the Internet works much like a transportation system. The main communication lines carry the heaviest amount of traffic on the Internet. These communication lines are referred to as Internet backbone. It can also be defined as:

The central structure or element of the network, which connects other elements of the network and handles the major traffic, is called the backbone. The backbone is a high-speed element. It is the major communication link that ties Internet servers across wide geographical areas.

How the Internet works?

It must be noted that there is no particular organization that controls the Internet. Different networks of private companies, government agencies, research organizations, universities etc. are interconnected together. You can say that the Internet is a huge collection of millions of computers, all linked together on a computer network. The network allows all of the computers to communicate with one another.

A home computer may be linked to the Internet using a phone-line modem, DSL or cable modem that communicates to an Internet Service Provider (ISP). A computer in a business or university will usually have a network interface card (NIC) that directly connects it to a Local Area Network (LAN) inside the business. The business can then connect its LAN to an ISP using a high-speed phone line such as Ti Line. A Ti Line can handle approximately 1.5 million bits per second, while a normal phone line using a modem can typically handle 30,000 to 50,000 bits per second.

Accessing the Internet

The Internet can be accessed through different ways to send and receive information.

The most popular methods are:

Connecting through Modem
Connecting through a LAN
Connecting through high-speed lines

1. Connecting through a Modem

You can connect to the Internet through modem. In this way, serial data communication port and dial-up utility program is used.

Most of the individual users connect to the Internet by using a telephone line, a modem of 56 Kbps and a SLIP (Serial Line Interface Protocol) or PPP (Point—to—Point Protocol) account. Most of the ISP companies provide these types of connections for home users and businesses.

When you connect to the ISP’s server computer by dialing through a telephone number, you have to give your username, password provided by that ISP Company.

2. Connecting through a LAN

You can connect to the Internet through a LAN, if LAN uses TCP/IP protocols and has an Internet connection.

This type of connection is commonly used by business to provide the LAN’s users with Internet access. Actually, the computer on the LAN connects to the Internet.

through a router. If the LAN uses a different kind of protocol then a gateway is used to convert that protocol to and from TCP/IP.

3. Connection through High Speed Lines

The data accessing speed of modem connection is very slow. It fine to access text data but it is not suitable to access graphics files or data like audio and video.

Today connections of dedicated high-speed lines are available from different telephone companies, cable 1W services etc. You can access data with very high speed, i.e., 20 or more times faster by using fiber optics, microwaves, satellites etc.
